Previously, ANI claimed that the series unlawfully used the agency's exclusive footage, which includes significant moments featuring former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf, and terrorist Masood Azhar, without obtaining proper licensing or consent.

The series, which aired on Netflix, recounts the harrowing 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight IC 814. It features actual news footage capturing critical moments from the aftermath, along with statements from Vajpayee and Musharraf, and visual coverage of Masood Azhar, whose release was a major demand of the hijackers. According to a Delhi High Court order, with the withdrawal of the suit, the two key dates for hearings, October 24, 2024 before the Joint Registrar (Judicial) and September 17, 2024 before the Court, stand cancelled.

The Anubhav Sinha directorial, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, had also drawn criticism over the names "Bhola" and "Shankar" assigned to the terrorists. Netflix India subsequently revised the opening disclaimer following the backlash.

Currently, IC 814 is still available for streaming on Netflix and continues to attract viewers. It ranks among the top 10 most-watched shows in India on the platform.

The series features an ensemble cast of Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza and Arvind Swamy
